JOSEP GARCIA STRENGTHENS ENDUROGP LEAD WITH VICTORY IN WALES

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Josep Garcia capped off the penultimate round of the FIM EnduroGP World Championship in Wales with victory in both the EnduroGP and Enduro1 categories on day two. The Spaniard, locked in a battle for the top step of the podium both days, was able to increase his lead in the EnduroGP class to 17 points with one round remaining.

Two weeks after his winning ride at the GP of Slovakia, Garcia was back on track for the penultimate round of the EnduroGP season in Wales. With the leader’s gold plate on his KTM 250 EXC-F, Josep was focused on strengthening his advantage over his nearest rivals.

Placing second in the Friday evening super test, Garcia began Saturday in confident spirits. However, the Spaniard struggled to find his rhythm on the special tests during the opening two laps. On the third and final lap, things began to click for the KTM rider and the fight for victory was back on.

Fastest in the penultimate cross test and final enduro test, he closed the gap to the leading two riders. Giving it his all on the final two tests, he placed just five seconds behind the winner in third in EnduroGP, while finishing as runner-up in Enduro1.

Knowing how to best judge the tough Welsh terrain, Garcia came out swinging on day two. Quickly putting himself into the overall lead on lap one, he set about capturing that EnduroGP win. Fighting all day with rivals Brad Freeman and Steve Holcombe, Garcia trailed Freeman for the lead by one second as they began the tenth and final special test of the day.

Blitzing the cross test to set the fastest time, Josep went on to take the EnduroGP victory by an incredible 15 hundredths of a second. The result also saw him top the podium in Enduro1 for the seventh time this season.

Now, with just the seventh and final round of the championship remaining, Garcia will arrive at the GP of France, on September 13-15, with a 17-point advantage in EnduroGP, while also leading Enduro1 by six points.

Josep Garcia: “It’s been a super competitive weekend in Wales, but I’m pleased to have come away with the EnduroGP victory on day two. Saturday started out a bit tricky. I didn’t find my rhythm on the first two laps and was just off the pace of the top two. I felt good on the last lap, but ran out of time to finish better than third. I knew day two could be better and began fast. The battle was super tight, and it all boiled down to the final test. I’m so happy I won and can now look forward to the final round in France next month.”

Taking in a wild card ride at the GP of Wales, FMF KTM Factory Racing Team Landers' Gus Riordan produced one of the standout performances of the weekend. Despite round six marking the young Australian’s first EnduroGP outing, he didn’t let the occasion faze him.

Blisteringly fast in Friday’s Super Test, the KTM youngster let everyone know he’d arrived by setting the outright fastest time. Competing in the highly-competitive Enduro Junior category, Gus went on to win day one. Aiming to back that up on Sunday, he almost made it two-for-two, finishing less than half of a second from victory as runner-up.

POSITIVE START TO US 450SX CHAMPIONSHIP FOR MUSQUIN AND THE RED BULL KTM FACTORY RACING TEAM

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Marvin Musquin stormed into the 2021 AMA Supercross Championship with a rock solid performance in Saturday’s Main Event, where he earned a spot on the 450SX podium in third. Taking place at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, the opener also kicked off the 250SX Eastern Regional Championship, where Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rookie, Maximus Vohland, captured an impressive top-10 finish in his professional supercross debut. Musquin, who missed the entire 2020 Supercross Championship due to injury, came into the opening round ready to race, securing a top-three qualifying position in the stacked field of 450SX riders. He powered his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION to a top-five start in 450SX Heat 2 and he quickly moved into fourth on the opening lap. He battled inside the top-five early on but a crash late in the race sent him back a few positions, ultimately salvaging an eighth-place transfer to the Main Event. In the main, Musquin had a swift jump off the start and he charged to the first turn, capturing the holeshot in his first Supercross Main Event in quite some time. He diced around the top-five early on but he really found his groove in the second half and continued charging into a podium position by lap 13. From there, Musquin focused his energy on maintaining a comfortable gap over the fourth-place rider and he did just that – placing his Red Bull KTM Factory Racing machine on the podium once again in Supercross. Musquin: “It’s good to be back. I had a great start in the Main Event, they were a little more aggressive than me right away, it’s been a long time since I’ve raced supercross, but we did everything we could to be ready for the first round. I knew the starts were going to be important and I’m super happy I made that happen and put myself in a good position to fight for a podium. I’m happy with the changes on the bike and I feel like the fitness will only get better and better with racing.” For Webb, it wasn’t the season opener he’d hoped for but the 2019 450SX Champion made the best of his night in Houston. In 450SX Heat 2, Webb shot off the line aboard his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, where he captured the holeshot and was able to create a decent gap early on. He was soon joined by Zach Osborne, who ended up getting by him late in the race, giving Webb a second-place finish in the heat. He didn’t get off to a great start in the Main Event so he immediately put his head down and charged through the pack. Climbing into the top-10 early on, Webb maintained a solid pace but he wasn’t able to maximize passing opportunities late in the race. After 28 laps of pure battle, Webb finished just inside the top-10 with a ninth-place position at Round 1. Webb: “The heat race went pretty good for me, I got the holeshot and led a majority of it and got second. In the Main Event, I got a really bad start and just struggled to come through. The track was really hard to gain time on tonight and I made a few passes but I struggled. We’ll look to get a lot better for Tuesday.” In the 250SX Eastern division, Maximus Vohland, fresh off a successful amateur racing career, dove right into his professional Supercross debut with a favorable third-place start in 250SX Heat 1. He mixed it up with some of the top riders in the class, bouncing back-and-forth inside the top-five. He made his way up to third halfway through and fell just short of a podium finish in his first-ever heat race attempt. With a solid gate choice heading into the Main Event, Vohland secured a top-10 start aboard the KTM 250 SX-F. A crash shuffled him back to 12th early on but the young rookie diligently worked his way up to ninth just before the halfway mark. He kept his focus laser sharp throughout the remaining laps, where he secured an impressive ninth-place finish in his debut. Vohland: “The first race went good. I made some mistakes but it’s a learning experience and we’ll make sure to come back on Tuesday to fix those little tweaks. The goal was top-10 and that’s what I achieved tonight, so we’re happy with that and we’ll pick up on a couple of those things and try to come back and get a better result on Tuesday.” Next Race: Houston, Texas – January 19, 2021 Results 450SX Class – Houston I 1. ELI TOMAC AND RED BULL KTM EARN BACK-TO-BACK 450SX WINS IN SAN DIEGO

Visualizza profilo
Eli Tomac and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing have made it back-to-back victories to open the 2026 AMA Supercross Championship, extending their advantage at the top of the 450SX standings following Round 2 in San Diego tonight. Two-time Supercross champion Tomac set the fastest combined qualifying time in the premier class during Saturday's afternoon sessions, displaying immediate comfort onboard his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION at Snapdragon Stadium. The decorated racer from Cortez, Colorado, powered to a strong start in his Heat Race, finishing P2 to secure a favorable gate pick for the upcoming Main Event. Another fast start in the Main Event saw the 33-year-old exit the first rhythm lane in third position, which would set the tone for the remainder of the race toward the front of the field. A race-long back-and-forth fight for position saw red plate-holder Tomac take control of the lead with six minutes remaining, fending off additional challenges late in the race to deliver his second win of the season and the 55th of his career. Eli Tomac: “It was quite a back-and-forth race tonight! At the beginning, I tried to play the patience game as Hunter [Lawrence] and Ken [Roczen] were really dicing it out, so I tried to warm into the race from there. It was close racing all Main Event, but of course, it was a great night, and to get two race wins in a row is massive. I feel very happy with what I am working with right now. As far as winning two in a row to open the season, you dream of it, but making it happen is a whole different deal. So, it’s been a great start for us – I feel really at one with the KTM and it’s showing.” Red Bull KTM Factory Racing 450SX teammate Aaron Plessinger’s night in San Diego also was a promising one, with the number 7 overcoming illness to finish third in his Heat Race, directly behind Tomac. Equipped with the KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, ‘The Cowboy’ featured among the top-five for a large portion of the Main Event, before recording a hard-fought P7 finish. With his combined results, Plessinger sits eighth in the 450SX Championship as the series returns to Angel Stadium in Anaheim next Saturday. Aaron Plessinger: "San Diego was pretty good! I’ve been sick all week, but I was feeling better in practice than I did last weekend, and I was actually feeling really good going into the Heat Race. Once I got done with that one, my chest was on fire and I had a headache, so it was tough... No excuses, though. I went into the Main Event and did what I could – I was around sixth for a while, and then was there until the last lap before a lapped rider held me up. It's racing, but we’ll go back this week, return to 100 percent, and then be ready for A2.” In his second AMA Supercross appearance as part of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team, multi-time MXGP World Champion Jorge Prado posted the second-fastest 450SX qualifying time in the afternoon onboard his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, before capturing the holeshot in Heat 1 and racing to a P2 result, which continued his impressive form following a podium at the season-opener. Upon launching to a top 10 start in the Main Event, the Spaniard posted a measured performance on a deteriorating circuit, eventually claiming 13th position by the time the checkered flag flew to continue building important experience in the discipline. Jorge Prado: "Round 2 was a positive day. Even though the Main Event didn’t go as well as I would have liked, I was still P2 in qualifying and then was also second in the Heat Race, so up until then, things were going very well. Then in the Main, I missed the start and after that I was riding tight. I didn’t really ride like myself, I would say, and it was a bit of a struggle. I kind of fell into some other riders’ pace around me, so I’ll need to learn from this, and again, it's a good learning experience to be better in the future. We'll come back solid for A2."
