MX2 victory for Adamo after Grand Prix of Europe thriller as Lucas Coenen earns his first MXGP podium result

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing came through the third round of the 2025 MXGP season with three podium finishes including a 1-2 in the MX2 class for Andrea Adamo and Simon Laengenfelder and Lucas Coenen securing his first top three result in the MXGP division. The action took place on another weather-hit weekend at the renowned hard-packed and rutty St Jean D’Angely circuit in western France.

The FIM World Championship transitioned from Spain to France for round three but could not escape the rainy weather with an overcast and showery St Jean D’Angely circuit providing a slick, bumpy and rutty hard-pack surface. Despite the grey climate, the fans packed the opposing hillside and cheered on the gates of the MXGP and MX2 classes for the first of two events based in France this season.

Lucas Coenen set an early marker in the weekend. The Belgian took the lead on the opening lap of the Saturday Qualification race and ran to victory for his first 10 points and MXGP Pole Position. Coenen started brightly again on Sunday where the weather was still unstable and the track was technical and demanding; rewarding riders who could nail the launch from the gate. Lucas rode to a decent 3rd place in the first moto for his highest Sunday race ranking yet and then he worked diligently from the top five in the second race to again take 3rd.

In MX2, the first moto went fantastically for the team and for Austrian machinery with Simon Laengenfelder claiming his first checkered flag of 2025 ahead of Andrea Adamo, followed by Liam Everts and the third Red Bull KTM racer, Sacha Coenen – the Belgian feeling sore after a fall while leading the Qualification race on Saturday – coming home in 4th. The track was drier and tackier but still heavily rutted for moto two. This did not slow the potential of Adamo who charged to P1 after enjoying a close duel with Thibault Benistant that went right to the line. The Italian celebrated his first view from the top of the rostrum since the summer of 2023. Laengenfelder made sure of his second podium of the championship with P3 and placed two Red Bull KTMs 1-2 in the overall standings. Coenen had the holeshot but a crash coming down the hill for the first time meant he had to pick-up and work his way back to 14th for 7th at the end of the day.

The Racestore KTM Factory Rookies team, a key component of the KTM MXGP Academy structure, were able to toast a strong first podium in the EMX125 championship. Teenager Hungarian Aron Katona was 3rd overall for his maiden trophy after winning the second moto with the KTM 125 SX. He placed ahead of Italian teammate Nicolo Alvisi in 4th.

MXGP will take a break for a week and then move back to southern Europe for the journey to Sardinia. The deep and rough sand of Riola Sardo will provide a different technical test on the first weekend of April.

Lucas Coenen, 3rd and 3rd for 3rd overall in MXGP: “What can I say? Speechless! That’s the first podium out the way. We had some difficult times lately but we’ve finally kicked off: 3-3 for 3. I wanted to make another pass in the second moto but it started raining and I just said “stay there and get the first podium. We now have two weeks off to rest and we’ll see what we can do in Sardinia. Thanks to the team and my physio, they worked so hard with me these last few weeks. I cannot thank them enough. We’re now looking forward to building confidence and see where we end up.”

Andrea Adamo, 2nd and 1st for 1st overall in MX2: “Amazing! It’s been a long time. I don’t know how many days or months. I’m happy to be back and to feel that fire and be competitive. That last lap was insane. It was not easy at all with these ruts because you can miss the corners. I’m really happy and I want to keep this momentum.”

Simon Laengenfelder, 1st and 3rd for 2nd overall in MX2: “In the second race I struggled a bit at the beginning to find all the good ruts, it was not that easy, but the riding was not too bad. It was very satisfying to win the first moto and to be on the podium again. I really like the track in Sardinia, so I’m looking forward to it already.”

Sacha Coenen, 4th and 14th for 7th overall in MX2: “Not such a good weekend. I had a good flow in the quali moto but then had that crash coming down the hill. I felt fast in the first moto but just couldn’t pass. 4th was not so bad. I did the hard part in the second moto and had the holeshot but I don’t know what happened on the first downhill. I went over the bars and it was difficult to come back. Everybody was very fast. I did the best I could and we took some points.”

LUCAS COENEN EARNS SECOND OVERALL IN THUNDER VALLEY PRO MOTOCROSS DEBUT

Round 3 of the 2026 AMA Pro Motocross Championship proved to be a successful outing for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing at Thunder Valley, with Lucas Coenen claiming second overall on debut in 450MX, while twin brother Sacha Coenen raced to the Moto 2 victory and fourth overall in 250MX. Current MXGP points-leader Coenen qualified second onboard his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION with a 2:02.201 lap-time, making an immediate impression in his first outing at the fast-paced, technical Colorado circuit. The 19-year-old Belgian translated that speed into a hard-fought second-place finish in 450MX Moto 1, charging through the field and closing to within 1.4 seconds of the victory by the checkered flag. Another convincing P2 score in Moto 2 saw Coenen secure an impressive runner-up result overall, completing what was a successful first Pro Motocross appearance for the talented teenager. Lucas Coenen: "This was amazing! My start wasn’t that good, but I managed to go quick in the first corner and then just enjoy [myself] out there. I can’t thank the team enough for making this happen, and with the Roger De Coster kit, it’s amazing – I loved every lap out there. The second moto was hectic with lapped riders, but you know, I am racing the best riders in the world and it’s a lot of fun. Now, I will go back racing our series in MXGP and we’ll see when we can come back again in the future." Also equipped with the KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, Jorge Prado qualified fourth fastest with a 2:04.286 lap-time as he and the team looked to rebound from a difficult Hangtown weekend. The four-time world champion started inside the top-10 in Moto 1 and charged forward to fifth place by race's end, before a post-race penalty dropped him two positions in the final classification. Fifth in Moto 2 saw the Spaniard claim fifth overall, and he climbed to sixth in the 450MX standings. Jorge Prado: "Not the best weekend for me at Thunder Valley – I struggled with starts and then also just finding a flow all day. When you don't start up front, it's hard to make up time on the leaders, especially when there are many lapped riders. So not my best performance, but we will regroup and bounce back at High Point." Red Bull KTM Factory Racing 450MX teammate Aaron Plessinger was the 11th-fastest 450MX qualifier this morning, and he raced to a sixth-place finish in Moto 1. ‘The Cowboy’ featured inside the top-three in Moto 2, before ultimately scoring P7 in the race and seventh overall. As a result, he's positioned eighth in the championship following the opening three rounds. Aaron Plessinger: "Thunder Valley was a much better day for me. I got a pretty good start in Moto 1 and then fell back on the opening laps, but I smoothed it out a little and found a flow from there. A couple of people got penalized in race one, which elevated me up the order to sixth, and then in Moto 2, I got a pretty solid start! I ran third for a while, then drifted back to seventh. Overall, it was a much better day today, the bike is feeling a lot better for me, the body is as well, and now we move on to High Point." Current MX2 World Championship leader Sacha Coenen also made his Pro Motocross debut in Colorado, qualifying second aboard the KTM 250 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, and then recovering to 14th position in Moto 1 after an early-race fall. A holeshot in Moto 2 saw Coenen settle into a fast and consistent rhythm out front, charging to an outstanding race victory. His 14-1 scorecard saw him salvage fourth overall for the weekend, also marking an encouraging first appearance in U.S. competition. Sacha Coenen: "I’m really happy to come over [to America] – this was our dream! We made it happen and the second moto was really good. I had a good start and the riding was just perfect. I’m just bummed about the first moto, but we need to accept it, and I am just really happy with the second moto. Thanks to everyone, it’s good confidence to take knowing that I can win a moto, so I am feeling very confident." Following his first-career Pro Motocross podium at Hangtown, Julien Beaumer continued his strong form at Round 3 in Lakewood, qualifying third on his KTM 250 SX-F FACTORY EDITION and racing to seventh in Moto 1. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider improved to fourth in Moto 2, with his consistent 7-4 scorecard earning sixth overall for the round. As a result, 'Juju' holds fourth position in the 250MX standings after three rounds. Julien Beaumer: "I had a good qualifying at Thunder Valley, then struggled in Moto 1 after a couple of tip-overs, but my overall riding was where it needed to be. And then Moto 2, I didn't get a great start – I had to fight from around 15th – and fought back to fourth. That shows that my riding and fitness are good, so I am happy with where we are right now. CAREER-FIRST 250MX PODIUM FOR RED BULL KTM'S JULIEN BEAUMER AT HANGTOWN

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Julien Beaumer earned the first AMA Pro Motocross Championship podium of his career at the Hangtown National on Saturday, combining 4-3 moto finishes to secure second overall and move into third position in the 2026 250MX standings. After opening the season with an impressive P5 overall at Fox Raceway on return from injury, Beaumer continued his momentum at Round 2 by qualifying seventh aboard his KTM 250 SX-F FACTORY EDITION and then charged to fourth in Moto 1. The 20-year-old was even stronger in Moto 2, climbing from outside the top 10 on the opening lap to finish in a hard-fought third position. His 4-3 scorecard resulted in P2 overall for the round and marked the first Pro Motocross podium of his young career. Beaumer now sits third in the championship standings after two rounds, continuing an impressive return to competition after being sidelined since the SMX Playoffs last September. Julien Beaumer: "I definitely didn't think it [this podium] would come so quick! Man, I feel like I am dreaming – it was a long nine months, and I think today shows the work that we put in, and that the decisions we've made while I was away were the right ones. I've been working hard and I couldn't be happier to do this for the team. They stuck behind me for the last nine months and believed in me, so to be up here for them is amazing – I can't thank them enough. They put an amazing bike underneath me, my bike was awesome all day, and I couldn't be happier to be on the podium." Equipped with the KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, Jorge Prado qualified third fastest with a 1:50.543 lap-time as he looked to build upon his runner-up finish achieved at Fox Raceway one week ago. The four-time world champion launched to a strong start in Moto 1 and held fourth place while closing on a podium during the latter stages of the race. However, a late issue resulted in a DNF, also leaving him with a difficult gate pick for Moto 2. After completing the opening laps outside the top 20 in the second moto, Prado charged through the field to finish in 13th position. He now sits seventh in the 450MX standings entering Round 3 in Colorado next weekend. Jorge Prado: "It was a rough day at Hangtown. The issue in Moto 1 while running fourth place really cost us, which was especially true knowing my gate pick was going to end up being on the far outside for Moto 2. That wasn't good for me, but we did what we could to salvage points, and all I can do is be my very best for the remainder of the rounds and see where we can end up overall." Red Bull KTM Factory Racing 450MX teammate Aaron Plessinger was the eighth-fastest 450MX qualifier at Hangtown and featured in P4 at the start of Moto 1. An early off-track excursion sent him down the order, with ‘The Cowboy’ recovering to 12th place. After falling heavily before an early restart to Moto 2, Plessinger was sitting 10th at the conclusion of Lap 1, but was later forced out of the race prior to its halfway mark. He will look to reset for Thunder Valley's third round of the 2026 outdoor season. Aaron Plessinger: "Hangtown was not the greatest of days. I qualified pretty well and was actually feeling good on the bike, and then in Moto 1, I got off to a good start, but on Lap 1, coming down one of the hills, I stuffed the front-end into a hole. I went off the track and didn't get back on until around 40 riders went past me. I was in last and did some good laps to come back to 12th, but overall, the mistake on my part took away from the result. And then Moto 2, going around the first turn, I tucked the front, then a couple of people ran over me. Off the restart, I got another okay start, and then we had an issue that forced me to pull out of the race, unfortunately. We'll regroup now and get ready for Colorado." Red Bull KTM Factory Racing was without four-time 450MX champion Eli Tomac at Round 2 of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship, with the Colorado native remaining sidelined while recovering from injuries sustained at the season-opener.
