Three class victories at GTC Race at the Lausitzring

The GTC Race series kicked back off again at the Lausitzring after a three-month break. The two KTM customer teams, CCS Racing and razoon – more than racing, were once again present at the race weekend held in Brandenburg. Uwe Schmidt and Michael Grassl were fighting for victory in their KTM X-BOW GTX (CCS), while Rick Bouthoorn and Daniel Drexel were competing in a KTM X-BOW GT4 (razoon).

The first class victory of the weekend was secured by Schmidt and Grassl in the GT60 race, which lasted 60 minutes. “Everything worked just the way it should have!” said Uwe Schmidt after the race. “We finished seventh overall and won our class. We were particularly happy to finish ahead of a GT3 car, too.”

Schmidt believes that the team’s performance in qualifying laid the foundations for the class win. “Qualifying was in changeable conditions, which benefited the lightweight GTX greatly. ABS and traction control helped provide enough grip, which was particularly important considering that the Lausitzring is such a low-grip track. It was a huge help to be starting in the midfield on the grid.”

CCS Racing also put in an impressive performance in the two sprint races, which drivers compete in individually. Both Uwe Schmidt and teammate Michael Grassl managed to finish their respective races first in class. The team spent the races fighting wheel to wheel with the higher-performance GT3 cars.

In the GT4 category, the razoon – more than racing team headed up by Dominik Olbert were also in the hunt for valuable points. Fourth place for Rick Bouthoorn and tenth for Daniel Drexel means that the team are now fourth in the teams’ classification. Bouthoorn himself is second in the Junior classification.

The 2022 GTC Race calendar takes in a total of five race weekends featuring both professional and amateur drivers. The remaining stops on the calendar are the Nürburgring, Assen and Hockenheim.
