NÜRBURGRING DTM TROPHY RACE PROVES CHALLENGING FOR THE KTM X-BOW GT4 EVO

  • True Racing by Reiter Engineering enter two KTM X-BOW GT4 EVOs in the DTM Trophy
  • Ninth place and four points for KTM works driver Reinhard Kofler
  • Starting positions in the midfield and towards the back of the field dash hopes of more points

It was a challenging weekend for True Racing by Reiter Engineering in the DTM Trophy. There were plenty of setbacks for Reinhard Kofler and Laura Kraihamer in the battle for points, and ninth place in the first of the two races was the best the team could hope for.

The Nürburgring round marked KTM works driver Kofler’s second appearance in the GT championship in 2021 following the race in Monza: “I had high hopes coming into this weekend,” said the 36-year-old. “We finished second here last year, which is the KTM X-BOW GT4s best result in the DTM Trophy to date, so I have fond memories of the circuit.”

The experienced KTM driver would have loved to have repeated his podium success of the previous year, but 13th on the grid wasn’t the ideal starting point. However, thanks to an excellent start – overtaking four competitors in just a handful of corners – ‘Reini’ was still able to finish ninth and take home four points.

The points haul on Saturday was followed by disappointment on Sunday. Reinhard Kofler was eyeing up another top 10 finish, but a spin on lap 13 put paid to his hopes. Even though there was no damage to his X-BOW, but the chance of a points-paying position in round six had gone.

Laura Kraihamer finished 17th (Saturday) and 14th (Sunday) in the two races at the historic circuit. Starting positions towards the rear of the grid cost the 30-year-old any hope of solid finishes the tightly fought series. Kraihamer’s battle through the field on Sunday, making up five places, was one of the highlights of the weekend.

The DTM Trophy continues with KTM’s home race in Austria. The series visits the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg from 3 to 5 September, as the circuit in the Austrian mountains plays host to the seventh and eighth rounds of the season.
