Prado toiled and gained consideration from Red Bull KTM and Ian Harrison’s crew in KTM North America; a team that had helped Cooper Webb, Chase Sexton and Tom Vialle to titles in the last half a decade. Ian’s set-up had also hosted Prado during his wildcard outings. They saw his potential and opened the door to a reunion. Jorge then had reaffirmation on his very first reconciliation with the KTM 450 SX-F. “Oh, yeah,” the Irvine resident asserts. “The first day I said: ‘I’m back. I’m fine.’ You always need to get used to things again…but it took nothing to be fast and at one with the bike. Super-happy.”
The U-turn began at pace during the winter weeks and Prado synced immediately with the KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION and the production-based rules set by the AMA federation. “For supercross we already had a very good base, so we didn’t need to do a lot of work in the off-season. Some things did need to be changed so had to work on making the set-up better…but I was also getting faster and faster and more comfortable all the time,” he says. “I had never really raced supercross in my life. I missed that experience. It’s all new to me and I didn’t know how the bike should feel, so to give feedback in the off-season was hard. I stuck to the set-up I was given and barely changed anything then, as the season went on, we started to see that I needed a bit more help from the bike. So, we started tweaking.”
