The Ultimate KTM Desert Experience

Limited to only 700 worldwide, the all-Austrian-made 2024 KTM 890 ADVENTURE R RALLY rips into the mid-weight adventure landscape with all the rigor of a READY TO RACE Dakar machine. All customers of this model were invited the exclusive opportunity to experience this machine in Morocco, an iconic location for rally riding that Australian customer Tim Darmanin could not miss. Here is Tim’s story…

When the email popped up in box about an exclusive desert experience in Morocco riding 2024 890 Rally’s I was like, “wow this looks good, haven’t done much sand, Morocco has never been on my bucket list but maybe?” I casually mentioned it to my wife (while she had a glass of wine in her hand) and she said that sounds like fun you should do it, before she said another word I was like ok I’m in and sent off my request before there were any more questions! So I’m off to Morocco!

From the moment of arriving at midnight into Errachidia it was clear that the KTM crew had taken care of every detail and it was going be an amazing experience, I do remember sitting on the bus thinking this is going to be fun but is really going to be hard core given we are on brand new 2024 Rally’s? Don’t Know why I ever doubted KTM would not be hardcore!

Three days and about 750kms of riding in varied Moroccan desert terrain with KTM staff from marketing and R&D including French Enduro legend Jonny Aubert, yes it was hardcore! Everything was taken care of, new tyres, rally mooses, air filters done for us each day, then amazing food and accommodation to cap it off. We even got to experience the desert camp with local entertainment and a memorable sunset camel ride!

The riding was first class and it really did feel like the organiser’s went out of their way to make sure we got a bit of everything and the very best of what was on offer in the Moroccan desert, I absolutely loved the riding and having not done heaps of sand it was great to progress my confidence in sand while following amazing riders such as Jonny Aubert, I felt so much more confident on last day and learnt so much watching Jonny in front of me which just felt like such a privilege!

On top of all this the most amazing thing that I didn’t consider was that friendships that developed over the 3 days, I now have friends (KTM family) from all over the world and we have kept communicating via a group chat and will definitely be sharing riding stories and reconnecting for future rides, I am already looking to what’s next and which country the next adventure will be in!

Thankyou KTM for a lifetime of memories, I have been sucked into the adventure vortex so what’s next guys?
