There’s no place like an Australian desert race! Think palm trees, the ocean sea breeze, while racing through a river bed of whoops and sand dunes. Now in its 5th year, the Don River Dash held in Bowen, North Queensland is definitely not your usual desert race location.
After a successful launch of Grabbo’s Trail and Track KTM VIP Race Experience earlier this year at Finke and racing in Don River Dash last year, Grabbo decided it was an event to put on the VIP Calendar. Who wouldn’t want to race in tropical Queensland right?!
‘After doing the Don River Dash for the first time in 2022 we decided to put it permanently on the calendar. Our customers are from all over Australia, they can fly into Proserpine airport, the gateway to the Whitsunday islands, race on of our bikes and then spend the rest of the week kicking back at a tropical resort as a tourist. There are not too many places in the world that you can experience the thrill and speed of a desert race type of event, but also experience the spectacular Whitsundays at the same time. The event format and the laid back nature of the local community make it a must-do for any rev heads that want to combine racing with a tropical holiday all at the same time.’
All reports were the track was pretty brutal, with the deep sand changing with each lap as the race progressed, with many of the early top 10 not finishing. Thankfully, under Grabbo’s guidance and expertise, our customers all finished with no need for emergency call outs!
The VIP Racers came from all over, showing the appeal of the VIP Race set-up. Grabbo offers what comes second nature for him due to the course of his career, but now it’s anyone who is a rider enthusiast can easily experience the same thrills of desert racing. All you need is to turn up!
