Championship title and maiden win to conclude GT2 European Series season 2021

  • With Christoph Ulrich in the KTM X-BOW GT2, a driver from the Am class scores an overall win in the new championship for the first time
  • After early title win, Sportec Motorsport crowns the inaugural season with another highlight
  • Reiter Engineering and True Racing round out clean sweep of the top three in the final standings

The best was saved for last: in the GT2 European Series season finale, Christoph Ulrich once again proved his qualities behind the wheel of a KTM X-BOW GT2. The Swiss already having shone with numerous podium finishes and class wins in the course of the season, at Le Castellet, he managed to score his maiden win in the race series that had its inaugural season in 2021.

In a spectacular final stage, the 49-year-old had the upper hand over the competition and was first across the finish line. “Christoph has shown a super performance throughout the year,” says Marcel Fässler, who is responsible for the motorsport activities of the KTM customer team. “He has more than deserved this victory, especially after the strong duels with opponents from the Pro-Am class.”

With 201 points to his tally, Christoph Ulrich is the champion in the Am class. His fellow KTM drivers Kris Rosenberger and Hans-Joachim Stuck collected a total of 156 points and secured runner-up spot in the final class standings. The Reiter Engineering duo particularly shone with consistency during the season. The two finished on the podium in nine of the ten races, also in the two final races in the south of France.

With another KTM X-BOW GT2, Sehdi Sarmini secured fifth place (Pro-Am class) in the first of the weekend’s two races. The KTM driver raced for the True Racing team that ended up third in the drivers’ standings with Klaus Angerhofer and Hubert Trunkenpolz.

Hubert Trunkenpolz, board member, KTM AG commented: “Congratulations to the Sportec team and to Christoph Ulrich. With their victory at Paul Ricard, they have shown impressively that they have deserved this title. I would also like to congratulate Reiter Engineering and True Racing on second and third in the championship. Third position in the Pro-Am class would have been possible, but unfortunately there was a collision between Sehdi Sarmini and a another KTM driver. Sarmini and Rosina were super strong for the whole year and would have well earned this final championship finish. It was a spectacular debut season for the GT2 European Series and a worthy stage for the KTM X-BOW GT2.”
