The SRO is opening a new chapter in the history of GT racing this coming weekend (April 16-18, 2021): With the start of the “Fanatec GT2 European Series” in Monza, Italy, the battle of legendary supercars and their drivers for the Title is on. The spectacular racing cars come from Audi, Ferrari, KTM, Lamborghini and Porsche and will ensure a great spectacle on the high-speed circuit in the royal park of Monza. KTM Sportcar GmbH is the manufacturer with the most entrants, namely five in number. The cars are prepared by the teams of True Racing, Reiter Engineering and Sportec. But not only the carbon racers with more than 600 hp are spectacular, the driver pairings are also impressive.
In the AM category (two bronze drivers each), KTM board member Hubert Trunkenpolz and Klaus Angerhofer in the KTM X-BOW GT2 (#17) are entered, the two Austrians were formerly successful in the KTM one-make series X-BOW BATTLE and in various long-distance races. On the other hand, a real motorsport legend is making its racing comeback in the KTM X-BOW GT2 with the #24: Hans-Joachim "Strietzel" Stuck, two-time Le Mans winner, DTM champion and German racing icon, shares his cockpit with Austrian rally champion Kris Rosenberger, who was most recently successful with the KTM X-BOW GT4. A third car for the “AM” comes from Swiss X-BOW importer Sportec AG with its KTM X-BOW GT2 (#7) for the Swiss driver pairing Christoph Ulrich and Adrian Spescha.
In the Pro-Am category (driver pairing of one bronze and one silver driver) there is Austrian Sehdi Sarmini with Slovak Stefan Rosina (KTM X-BOW GT2, #16), as well as Bavarian Rupert Atzberger with Dutchman Peter Kox (KTM X-BOW GT2, #23) on the way. While Sehdi Sarmini gained experience in KTM's own one-make series X-BOW BATTLE as well as in some endurance races, Rupert Atzberger used to be in Porsche Clubsport. Their prominent co-drivers, on the other hand, were extremely successful in the Porsche Supercup (Rosina) and in international GT1 and GT3 racing (Kox).
KTM board member Hubert Trunkenpolz: “It’s a great pleasure for us to be playing an important role at the start of the new Fanatec GT2 European Series as a manufacturer. It is gratifying that we are nominally the strongest brand with five cars entered. But I'm even more happy about the great driver pairings that our team and our customer teams can offer. The fact that Strietzel Stuck has placed his trust in us for his racing comeback is an absolute highlight in itself. Now we are doing everything we can to ensure that we’ll be able to fight for the podium places and for victory in both categories in Monza!”
