#MotoE Jerez Test - 1st Place (Combined): I'm very happy with the work we've done today. We set a fast lap in the morning session, and I've felt better and better with the bike. In the afternoon we had mixed conditions on track, and it was good to have references for mapping and try out different setups to see what else we can work on for next March. In the last session there were a lot of puddles; we went out with slicks and were very competitive again. I'm very satisfied with this first test, as we have always been among the fastest riders and we have more and more knowledge about the bike. We know which direction to take and what to do to improve. I really enjoyed myself with my new team, and I'm looking forward to coming back to Jerez in March!
#MotoE Test Day 1 Jerez: I am happy to have completed my first laps on the MotoE bike. The first session was in the wet, so it was a good opportunity to compare it to the feeling in the dry conditions that we had later.
I am positively surprised with the handling of the bike and the way it has performed here at Jerez. We have to work out which steps we need to take to improve everything and evaluate the result of each step.
So far everything we have seen has been positive; now we need to analyse the work we have done on this first day and make a plan for tomorrow. We were in the top three for the majority of the day, now we have to work out a way to be the fastest, which is the objective.
#ValenciaTest: It was nice to do several laps with the new bike and the new team today. Our goal is first and foremost to gain familiarity with the RS-GP, find a base setup that will then allow us to better assess the various technical upgrades that we'll need to test as our experience grows. We worked a lot on the electronics and we made some slight changes to the suspension calibration, reaching a level where I am more at ease. I adapted rather quickly. I didn't struggle too much to find a good position in the saddle and I can't wait to get back on the track in Jerez to give the guys more information so we can prepare the 2019 bike as best as possible.
Pol Espargaró - thanks for the last five years, mate! I’m proud I got to share this moment with you. You pushed me every day and made me a better rider. Congratulations to KTM Factory Racing!
#ValenciaGP: “Some things are just meant to be. I was pushing back to get to bike No.2 just to finish the race because there was only fifteen guys at that point. I did not want to ‘go out’ like that, with a crash and thinking ‘what could have been’: that's not what I’m about. I was running inside the top ten and my ambition this weekend was to get six points so I might be able to beat Pol in the championship. I got eight but he did a fantastic job today. It was obviously great to see and great for the team and all the boys. I’m happy I go out on my ‘high’ this was my best result. I cannot ask for much more.”
OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: One Energy Racing and Bradley Smith are delighted to announce today the signing of an agreement that foresees their joint participation in the MotoE World Cup in 2019.
Bradley said: "This is a completely new chapter in the motorcycling world and I am very excited to be a part of MotoE. EEnergy and I have a big task at hand to learn and adapt to this new technology, but I am confident we are ready for the challenge!"
MotoE is the newly formed electric class of the MotoGP™ Championship; an additional motorcycle racing category alongside the already highly established, MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 classes.
The electric motorcycles will run without producing any gaseous emission and make a limited amount of sound. All the energy stored in the batteries that will power the motorcycles will be produced from renewable resources. There will be five MotoE™ European race-events during MotoGP™ weekends, in 2019.
One Energy Racing is born from the passion, competence and experience of former World Championship rider Johan Stigefelt; CEO of Sepang International Circuit, Razlan Razali and dynamic entrepreneur Matteo Ballarin, who specializes in the distribution of electricity and gas.
Currently racing for KTM MotoGP in 2018, British rider Bradley Smith brings with him the experience of thirteen seasons at World Championship level and twenty-five podiums across all three classes.
#MalaysianGP: We were lacking performance all race with some technical issues which meant I couldn't set my normal lap-times. I could still finish the race and took a point, which was a positive and there are just five points between Pol and me going into the last race. Five points is difficult to gain but it is still fun to be going into that situation.
We worked well all weekend and the guys clearly know what they need to do and what they need to fix. I’m quite excited about Valencia. It will be my last Grand Prix and it is a track I enjoy. We’ll go there optimistic and keen to finish this chapter with KTM in a positive way.
#AustralianGP: We did a good job. We saw Phillip Island as an important weekend for KTM because we knew the bike would work quite well here. The team did a fantastically because the main aim of the weekend was to try and set up the bike as best as we could to look after the rear tyre. It meant we had to sacrifice qualification a little bit yesterday but it paid off today. I had a great first lap to come from sixteenth to eighth and then tried to hold the position for as long as possible.
Unfortunately towards the end I just didn't have anything left for Morbidelli or Aleix. Sepang now and it is a difficult track but I think we have some good confidence and the bike has a good setting and it working well for me. I’m optimistic we can keep the same level and take some good points.
