Austria's young rider Lukas Wimmer may have won the penultimate race in the 2012 KTM European Junior Cup but Spaniard Gaston Garcia kept his title chances alive coming second at the race in Magny Cours, France on Saturday. The final race of the series is on Sunday.
Wimmer has proved to be an all or nothing racer in the 2012 season winning four of the seven rounds so far and being out of the points in the other three races setting up an exciting final battle with Garcia in the closing race. All riders in this competition, run parallel to the World Superbike Championship rider KTM 690 Duke machines.
After taking to the grass early on the opening lap to avoid Wimmer, Garcia was unable to shake off the group of eight riders behind. Garcia clung on to second ahead of the very fast Wildcard Giullaume Raymon who finished third.
Artur Wielebski took an encouraging fourth ahead of Adrian Pasek and a returning Josh Harland was sixth. Seventh for Christian Vidal ruled himself out of the Sunday's championship fight while the youngest rider in the series, 14 year old Stinius Viking Odegard took a spirited eighth.
Sunday's race leaves only Wimmer and Garcia in the running for the 2012 title.
