KTM Race Director and 10 times Motocross World Champion Stefan Everts is again hosting his now renowned “Everts & Friends Charity Race” this year being held at the Horensbergdam circuit in Genk .
The seventh edition of this unique event, a combination of competition and riding fun, will as usual raise money for a range of charities, especially those involving children. The 2012 edition is being held on July 29.
KTM’s factory riders Jeffrey Herlings (TBC), Jeremy van Horebeek and Jordi Tixier will be joined by a whole host of MX1 and MX2 rivals for the event and there will be a guest appearance by KTM’s three times Dakar winner Marc Coma of Spain.
New to the varied and fun program in 2012 is the ‘Cyclo MX Race’ where a top motocross rider and a cyclocross racer will team up. Also on hand will be a whole host of ‘Golden Heroes” – the stars of yesteryear. Included in the program are races for the ‘Mini’s’ (50cc and 65cc), 'Future Stars' (85cc), 'GP Stars' (MX1/MX2/WMX), 'Fun Bikes' (mopeds/scooters) and 'Golden Heroes' (old timers).
The ‘relay motocross-cyclocross’ race will see a star from motocross and cyclocross alternating on the circuit. This year a number of famous Belgians from sport and showbiz - including TV Star Tom Waes – will make an appearance at the start of the 'Fun Bikes' race. The winner of the ‘Future Stars’ class is to receive the Stefan Everts trophy, a stone-carved replica of ‘The Legend’s’ last air-cooled engine, fully equipped with kick-starter and spark plug.
Special track highlights:
• Joël Robert, Sylvain Geboers and René Baeten Junior will most exclusively mount their vehicles one more time for a lap of honour on the Horensbergdam, guided by brass band music. Stefan Everts will join them on the factory 125cc with which he won his first world title in 1991.
• André Vromans, Harry Everts and Marc Velkeneers, the 1981 Belgian MXON team that took on the world in Lommel, will be put in a lap of honour in their original race gear and bikes.
• Liam Everts, Stefan’s now seven-year-old son who is already a skilful BMX rider, will showcase his promising talent on his little KTM bike in Genk when he joins his friends to put in some laps on a mini circuit.
Plenty of off-track action
As well as fun on the racetrack there will be plenty to do in the grounds of the circuit. The paddock and team trucks will be conveniently arranged, there will be a covered expo with famous classic motocross bikes, a kids entertainment area and a tent that will host the supporters party and motocross quiz on Saturday evening. Today’s track stars will also be on hand to sign autographs during the program interval.
Praga Khan and Sonic Angel icon, Maurice Engelen, will once again compose the start tune exclusively for ‘Everts & Friends’.
As well as benefiting charities especially selected by Everts to benefit children and youth, the exclusive ‘Everts & Friends’ t-shirts and caps will be sold online (via www.evertsandfriends.be/shop and on the most important BMB motocross races) and a new exclusive art piece ‘Fly like an Eagle’ by Arlette Meeuws will be sold by auction during the day.
The ‘Everts & Friends Charity Race’ will take place on a re-designed circuit and the AMC Genk club have foreseen extra parking for the supporting spectators.
