2017 KTM Freeride E-XC
Absolute freedom! Whether on the road or in offroad terrain, everything is possible on the FREERIDE E-XC. No exhaust emissions and no noise pollution, plus a spontaneous, surprisingly powerful, state-of-the-art electric drive. Fun is guaranteed for novices and professionals alike, thanks to the various adjustable ride modes from economy to standard to advanced. The pioneering electric vehicle concept for the offroad world has been brought to production readiness by KTM over a four-year development period, to make a contribution towards better environmental compatibility. The flat KTM PowerPack is completely recharged in only 80 minutes (80% in 50 minutes), so nothing stands in the way of up to an hour of riding fun, depending on terrain and riding style.
KTM stands for innovative technology. Especially when it comes to offroad products, KTM has been setting the benchmark for decades and is therefore a market leader, assuming the role as a forerunner. The development of a motorcycle with minimal noise pollution and emission is the logical next step. KTM started to develop an E-motorcycle back in 2010. The company wanted to set an example for environmentally friendly offroad bikes. Now, as a result, KTM can present the FREERIDE E-XC.
The proven, extremely lightweight, FREERIDE composite frame design has been refined for FREERIDE E models and adapted to the compact electric power unit. Compared with fuel-burning versions, the frame on E-models is designed to be open at the bottom. The motor therefore acts as a load-bearing element with additional support from a solid aluminum base plate. This guarantees optimum stiffness and ultimate stability, even on bigger jumps. The inherently stable plastic subframe has integrated grip recesses that provide an effective hold should the rear wheel ever become stuck in the mud. The lightweight, cast-aluminum swingarm has been designed to support the suspension system comprising frame and springs with targeted flexibility in the direction of oscillation.
The long, slender seat allows unrestricted freedom of movement. The seat on the FREERIDE E-XC offers minimally higher padding at the rear and therefore greater riding comfort. It can be tipped up quite easily with an integrated release mechanism, to gain access to the KTM PowerPack. Thanks to a moderate seat height of only slightly over 900 mm, good contact with the ground is always guaranteed, even in rough terrain.
A permanent-magnet synchronous motor in a disc armature design powers the KTM FREERIDE E. This compact and slim power plant generates 42 Nm of torque from the first twist of the grip and ensures spontaneous power delivery. Even at high outside temperatures, the motor casing's liquid-cooling system with electric water pump ensures flawless functionality with no drop in performance. Twist and go. No clutch. No shifting: Simply twist the grip, ride off and have fun!
The external battery charger can be connected to a 220-volt power socket and operated with a minimum fuse rating of 10 or 13 (quick charging) amperes. It can also be connected conveniently to the KTM PowerPack installed in the vehicle.
