KTM riders Jetro Salazar and Giacomo Scavino from Team Peru have continued KTM’s winning ways in 2012 with their victories in the recent Latin American MX Championships in Colombia at the El Recuerdo Yopal Casanare circuit some 200 km from Bogota.
Salazar successfully defended his MX2 2011 title and began his bid with a triumphant fastest qualifying time. He made a cautious start in the first moto but went all out in the second, and despite a strong challenge from Ecuadorian rider Alvaro Cardenas brought the title back to Peru for the second year in a row. Cardenas was second and Ian Salazar, the brother of the champion took third place.
Meanwhile another Peruvian rider, eight years old Giacomo Scavino also emerged as the Latin American champion in the 50cc class of the championship, proof that Peru has a strong candidate for the next generation of top class MX riders. All three riders are expected to excel in the Peruvian National Championship set for December 2, 2012.
