RED BULL MOTOGP ROOKIES CUP: ANOTHER DECISIVE WIN FOR HANIKA!
Talented Czech rider Karel Hanika continued his winning ways in Round 13 of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup at Aragon, Spain on Saturday. Already declared the title winner in the last round, Hanika took another decisive victory in the penultimate round of the competition. Dutch rider Scott Deroue was second and Stefano Manzi of Italy took the minor podium place.
It was Karel Hanika’s seventh win in the 2013 series but although an impressive ride it was only in the final stages of the race did he pull away from Deroue and Manzi. Hanika said it had been a hard race and admitted he had experienced some difficulties changing down through the gears, a problem he speculated may have been caused through a crash in Friday's practice.
He was also helped when Spanish rider Marcos Ramirez slide off the track in the final stages. Although he scrambled back into the race, his untimely exit gave Hanika enough time to distance himself from his other two challengers. The fall of the Spanish rider had also intervened on Deroue’s ambitions to challenge Hanika in the final stages.
Manzi, the 14-year-old Italian had a great race. He had qualified back at tenth position but rode strongly to advance up to the front group. But while Hanika rode over the line with a comfortable lead, Joan Mir of Spain and South African Darryn Binder were also both podium contenders going into the final lap.
Riders contest the final race in the 2013 series on Sunday at the Aragon circuit, due to start at 15:30 CET. It can be viewed on www.redbull.tv.
