ROCZEN AND DUNGEY FINISH 1-2 AT MUDDY CREEK NATIONAL IN TENNESSEE
BLOUNTVILLE, Tennessee – Red Bull KTM Factory riders Ken Roczen and Ryan Dungey each took a moto win at the Muddy Creek National to finish 1st and 2nd overall for the day at the fifth round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship Series.
Both Ken Roczen and Ryan Dungey earned good starts out of the gate in moto one. Roczen passed into the lead on the second lap but crashed half a lap later and dropped to 4th place. His crash allowed Eli Tomac, Trey Canard and Dungey to go by. He quickly recovered and caught on to the rear wheel of Dungey and the two teammates began to pressure the top two riders. On their KTM 450 SX-Fs they quickly moved to the front of the pack and began to pull away from the rest of the field.
Dungey and Roczen stayed close to each other through the entirety of the race until Roczen suffered another tip over with three laps to go. He returned to the track without losing a position but did not close back on his teammate. Dungey went on to take the moto win with Roczen finishing approximately ten seconds back in the runner-up position.
In moto two, Dungey leaped out to another great start earning the holeshot. Roczen was immediately behind him and made the pass for the lead in the opening lap. Dungey did not let Roczen out of his sight and the two riders pulled to a massive lead out front as they battled each other for the win. Near the end of the moto lappers became a problem for both riders and allowed the gap between them to close. When the checkered flag flew, it was Roczen who claimed the second moto win followed by Dungey. The KTM riders were an impressive full minute ahead of the 3rd place finisher.
“I think having Ryan (Dungey) push me the whole moto today helped us both stretch our lead out front”, remarked Roczen of their impressive lead on the field. “We have both been training hard and it is showing on the track.”
Roczen’s 2-1 scores earned him the overall victory for the day while Dungey’s 1-2 motos placed him 2nd overall. The two riders still maintain the top two positions in the overall point standings.
After the race, Dungey commented: “I’ve been able to train in the hot weather lately and that really paid off for me today. The bike felt great and I got off to good starts both motos. The lappers definitely made a difference in the second moto but I am glad to run up front with my teammate and to see both Red Bull KTM bikes on the top of the box.”
