MEO OPENS HIS ACCOUNT AT ENDUROPALE BEACH RACE

published at 03.02.2013 / Creado por Marcia Hill

KTM factory rider and reigning E1 World Champion Antoine Meo had a good day out at the Enduropale Beach Race at Le Tourquet, France on Sunday crossing the line in third overall and officially finishing fifth after results were adjusted when the race was cut by one hour due to adverse conditions on the beach front.

On his first ever attempt at this event Antoine Meo fought valiantly against a group of specialist local beach riders who eventually took the top spots. He started in eighth place in what is in essence a mass start of hundreds of competitors and advanced for fourth as the race progressed before he had a big crash that shuffled him back to twelfth place.

Meo then had to work hard to get back among the top runners but ran out of time when race organizers had to cut the race time from three to two hours because of rising sea water at the beach front location.

Speaking from the venue, KTM Enduro Factory team manager Fabio Farioli said he believed Meo would have been ‘at least on the podium’ had the race run for the scheduled time. “This was the first time Meo has raced here and it was a very positive experience. He competed against local riders who are very fast and who specialize on this race. If the race had run the whole three hours I think he would at the least been on the podium.”

Next weekend Meo changes to a dry venue when he and KTM factory teammates Ivan Cervantes of Spain, Taddy Blazusiak of Poland and Jonny Walker of the UK head for the second round of the FIM SuperEnduro championship at Barcelona.
