2012 INTERNATIONAL SIX DAYS ENDURO (ISDE) AS SEASON HIGHLIGHT IN GERMANY

published at 18.09.2012 / Creado por Marcia Hill

The 2012 International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) in Saxony, Germany (September 24-29) is set to be one of the highlights of the racing season for both world class Enduro riders and Enduro enthusiasts from all over the world.

KTM factory riders will again be at the forefront of competition in 2012 in keeping with the profile KTM places on Enduro sport and its motto of always being ‘Ready to Race’.

While Finland, spearheaded by KTM factory rider Eero Remes both hosted the annual event and won the coveted ISDE World Trophy in 2011, this year much will focus on the French team. The French go to Saxony with a proven track record in the sport, which enjoys great popularity throughout the country. KTM factory riders make up three of the six members of the French team contesting the World Trophy with 2012 World Champions Antoine Meo (E1) and Christophe Nambotin (E3) well supported by factory teammate Johnny Aubert in E2.

Other official KTM Enduro factory riders who will represent their national teams in the World Trophy are Remes (E1) for Finland and brothers Cristobal Guerrero and Victor Guerrero of Spain in E2 and E1. Regrettably David Knight has had to withdraw from the British team on doctors’ advice as they continue tests to resolve a recently emerged health issue.

The US team will also be heavy on KTM factory riders from ‘across the pond’ with factory riders Mike Brown (E1), Kurt Caselli (E2), Charlie Mullins (E2) and Russell Bobbitt (E3) lining up for the stars and stripes, riders that should be in the forefront of the 2012 World Trophy competition. Australia are also bringing two prominent and proven KTM offroad riders in Tony Price (E3) and Josh Strang (E2).

Red Bull and KTM as strong partners at ISDE
The 2012 ISDE has Red Bull, KTM’s strong partner in many motorsports activities as its title sponsor and the Austrian company has a worldwide reputation for its high level of support and promotion of international sport and athletes. The Red Bull-KTM partnership will ensure that both top riders and dedicated enthusiasts will have the best possible support before and during the six days of competition. KTM already has a long tradition of support for the ISDE providing comprehensive customer packages that encompass everything from rental machines to spares and onsite support and tips as permitted under the rules of the competition.

Riders from all over the world
Once again the competition has drawn entrants from all over the world from countries as diverse as Argentina, Australia, Guatemala, Japan, South Africa and Venezuela. Some 480 riders are signed up and set to enjoy six superb days of tough competition. It is both a chance for the stars of the sport to shine and a unique opportunity for hobby riders and enthusiasts to meet their heroes and share the competition and camaraderie for which the sport is universally known.

Riders compete in a range of divisions from the all important and highly prestigious World Trophy down to club level and junior riders. But what binds competitors together is the fact that riders of all nationalities and skill levels enjoy six days of competition in a unique setting, which for many is a highlight of their sporting activities.

ISDE returns to Germany after 23 years
The 2012 ISDE returns to Germany for the first time in 23 years. Competitors will ride more than 1,400 km through Central and Western Saxony during the six days of competition but the ISDE headquarters will be based at the Saxonring, the world class MotoGP circuit. An added attraction to the program in 2012 is the final day competition that will have a Supermoto character. Organizers report that this track will be approximately 1,800 m long on a part of the so-called Omega circuit and will be 60% on the asphalt and 40% offroad.
The Saxony region is in the very heartland of Enduro racing in Germany and this year’s event is set to be both a showstopper and a fitting conclusion to the 2012 season.

The ISDE is the oldest offroad event on the calendar of the FIM (International Motorcycle Federation). First held in Carlisle England in 1913, except for interruptions due to World War I & II it has enjoyed enduring popularity and a loyal following. First started as a Trials event, it became the ISDE in 1981 to reflect the changing nature of the sport to reflect the modern Enduro style and to remain a test for both man and machine in equal importance.
