KTM 2014: SERIAL WORLD CHAMPION,
SOURCE OF INNOVATION AND ALWAYS ON THE MOVE!
Besides riding talent, tireless training and a professional outlook, perfect motor racers are distinguished by always giving their all. A true fighter will not give up when all seems lost – but will also refuse to let up when leading by a seemingly uncatchable margin. We at KTM live this racing enthusiasm and follow these basic tenets when we strive every day to stay ahead of the others, and by more than a short head. Some of the most talented, highest motivated and best educated people work here in Mattighofen, people with petrol in their blood and racing in their DNA. But what really distinguishes them is their will to never let up. The motorbikes thought up, developed and produced here are not only “ready to race”, they are champion bikes. In nearly all areas, they gain victory after victory, title after title – from the deserts of the rally raids to the forests of the enduro WC, from the dust of the MX arenas to the tarmac of the GP race tracks, from the motorcycle markets of the world to the hearts of our fans. And still we keep working tirelessly on new concepts, new technologies, new models. Success makes us open the throttle, not hit the brakes. The enthusiasm of motorcyclists for the machines from Mattighofen does not make us rest but drives us to pursue successful concepts further and explore new avenues beside the usual, rutted tracks.
WORLD PREMIER: MSC
Only a year ago, we launched a new Adventure generation, developed from scratch with the most elaborate electronic rider assistance systems known to the market to date. The ride mode technology, the multi-stage combined antilock braking system C-ABS, the traction control MTC (also multi-staged), the multiply programmable electronic suspension EDS and the tire pressure monitoring system TPMS offer Adventure riders unparalleled levels of support. Now though, we add a true world premiere: in model year 2014, the 1190 Adventure and 1190 Adventure R will be the world’s first motorcycles to offer an ABS that stays fully functional even while cornering. This becomes possible through the stability control MSC (Motorcycle Stability Control) developed in close cooperation with Bosch, controlling the antilock system and traction control while taking real-time dive and yaw angles into account, thereby enabling optimum braking and acceleration while leaned over, to the fullest extent that the dynamic physical limits allow. Thanks to its chassis technology, the 1190 Adventure and 1190 Adventure R are now far ahead of the rest of the world in terms of riding dynamics and safety.
THE MOST RADICAL NAKED BIKE EVER
Also one year ago, KTM caused a stir here on the EICMA with a concept bike that illustrated how we envision a naked bike worthy of crowning our Duke range in future, and that was able to take on every sport bike in the world. Today, and here in Milan, we present the final production 1290 Super Duke R. It keeps all the promises made by the prototype. At 180 hp and 189 kg of weight, the new Super Duke realizes a power-to-weight ratio previously reserved for uncompromising super sport bikes. With a whole load of the latest electronic assistance systems, from the multi-staged ABS to the multi-staged, lean angle sensitive traction control, it defines new benchmarks for streetfighters and naked bikes in terms of controllability and safety. And with its breathtaking looks, the 1290 Super Duke R showcases the idea behind this unique concept – converting previously unknown levels of performance into unlimited riding enjoyment.
EXPANDING THE FREERIDE CONCEPT
With the Freeride concept, KTM has even created a brand new segment – to resounding market success. We have familiarized countless new customers with KTM as a brand, and with off-road riding: beginners, switchers, returning riders. Road riders who had always yearned to one day broaden their horizons beyond the tarmac. People who take an interest in and enjoy cross-country riding but who refuse to submit to expectations and pressure. People who feel intimidated by tall enduros but nonetheless refuse to put up with anything less than fully-fledged, capable off-road bike – even though they themselves might not be especially tall. At the same time, we opened up completely new perspectives for emission- free transport on two wheels by adding the electric bike Freeride E to the four-stroke Freeride 350. By doing that, we have re-claimed a new dimension of freedom for off-road sports that already seemed lost forever due to stricter and stricter environmental regulations. Now, we carry the concept to extremes, extending and rounding off the spectrum with the new two-stroke model Freeride 250 R – for all who appreciate the simplicity, power and low weight of that engine concept and want to make use of its benefits on motorbike hikes across the toughest terrain.
FULLY FAIRED SUPERSPORT BIKES
With the successful expansion of our Duke range to smaller displacements, we have proven in recent years that there is still hope even for long neglected market segments – if you put the right concept on wheels. 125 Duke, 200 Duke and 390 Duke have managed to convince thousands of young riders and young-at-heart of the benefits of sporty and versatile naked bikes. Now, we rise to the challenge of re-igniting the passion for sport bikes in the lower and middle displacement categories with a contemporary interpretation of ultra-lightweight, fully faired race replicas. We are certain that there is a huge demand for affordable, high quality sport bikes in the lower displacement category. The brand new models RC 125, RC 200 and RC 390 will rekindle the flames in many sport riders’ hearts.
