ROCZEN EARNS 2ND AT SEASON FINALE AT LAKE ELSINORE MOTOCROSS PARK
LAKE ELSINORE, California – Red Bull KTM Factory rider Ken Roczen took a moto win on his way to a 2nd place overall finish in the 250 Motocross class at the final round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship Series held at Lake Elsinore Motocross Park. His teammate, Marvin Musquin, rebounded from two first lap crashes to finish 7th overall.
Ken Roczen put his KTM 250 SX-F out front early at the start of moto one. He rounded the first corner in 2nd position and took over the lead before the riders got to the first jump. Roczen went on to lead every lap of the race as he pulled out to a 12 second lead to take a dominating win over rival Eli Tomac.
“It feels great to get a win here,” stated Roczen. “I have been working really hard and training in the heat the past few weeks and I felt strong the whole moto. I was happy to pull away out front and hope to repeat for the second moto.”
Roczen’s teammate, Marvin Musquin, did not have as good of luck in moto one. Although he got off to a good start, he suffered a crash after coming up short on a double jump early in the race which lost him multiple positions. He eventually recovered and came around the next lap in 14th. He charged hard for the remainder of the race, continuing to pick up positions all the way to the final lap. On the last lap, he passed Cole Seely to claim his final position which placed him 9th for the moto.
In the second moto, Roczen pulled another good start and was sitting 5th after the first corner. Within the first lap he had already moved into 3rd before he suffered a crash after he clipped the rear wheel of Zach Osborne’s bike coming out of a corner. He dropped back to 14th place. Two laps later he had already made progress and was sitting in 11th. He continued to charge forward throughout the moto to eventually work his way up to 7th place. His 1-7 moto results earned him 2nd overall for the day.
Unfortunately, Musquin suffered another crash on the opening lap of moto two and was in 22nd position after lap one. He put together a solid performance to move his KTM into the top ten by the end of the moto. His 9-10 moto finishes placed him 7th overall for the day.
