Australian rider Jack Miller comes to the Red Bull KTM Ajo factory team in 2014 after having debuted in the World Championship in 2011 and subsequently racing in the 2012 and 2013 seasons. As a young rider he was a motocross enthusiast and prior to joining the ranks of the World Championship he was impressive riding in the German International Series.
Miller follows riders of the caliber of Sandro Cortese (Moto3 World Champion in 2012) and Luis Salom (Vice World Champion in 2013) into the official factory team under the experienced hand of Aki Ajo. He performed well in pre-season IRTA tests and topped the combined timesheets in the final round.
While Jack liked to play to the crowd and has a lively personality, team boss Aki Ajo has praised is work ethic and his desire to do well. Miller also takes the serious approach when discussing his preparation for his debut season with Moto3’s most successful factory team. “It has been a very good pre-season. I learnt a lot and the whole team has helped me. We’ve had some truly productive tests, so I think we're prepared."
He has also established a good working relationship with Ajo and chief mechanic Patrick Unger. "Both Aki and Patrick are great professionals. Undoubtedly, Aki is the best team leader I have ever had. He’s nice and friendly and very calm, so it's very easy for me to work with such a person. Along with Patrick and the entire team, we are going in the right direction and if we continue in the same vein, we can have a great season."
When asked about his goal for 2014 Miller said: "To try to get the best results possible and –why not – become World Champion." The fact that Miller declares consistency as the most important criteria is an indication of his mature approach.
"It's not about who wins more races. We must always try to score points, being consistent with that. It is clear that we must try to win races and that's my goal, but those days when you're not having your best weekend, you need to be able to take the maximum possible points. It’s easy to say now, but we are working hard and it will not be easy. I want to face that challenge."
Miller’s companion racer in the Red Bull KTM Ajo Factory Team is Czech rider Karel Hanika, who is making his Moto3 debut.www.jackmiller.com.au Jack's facebook
