OILIBYA RALLY OF MOROCCO REPLACES PHARAOH’S RALLY
The international Motorcycle Federation (FIM) has announced that the OiLibya Rally of Morocco (October 13-19) is to replace the Pharaoh’s Rally (Egypt) as the final leg of the 2013 World Championship calendar. KTM’s Marc Coma of Spain currently has a narrow 3-point lead in the standings.
Organizers were forced to cancel the rally in Egypt earlier in August due to the unstable situation in the country.
Marc Coma, the 2012 World Cross Countries Rally champion and multiple Dakar Rally winner, will welcome being back in the desert. He won the first three legs – the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, the Sealine Rally in Qatar and the Sardinia Rally before the tour moved to Argentina and Brazil where he placed second and third.
Coma is being hotly pursued for the season’s honors by Portugal’s Paolo Goncalves and with only three points separating the two riders, the final leg is now set to become a thriller. In third place is Coma's fellow KTM factory rider, Jakub Przygonski of Poland.
