TARRAN SHOWS ROOKIE PROMISE
Moto3 British championship leader shows front-running pace in opening Red Bull Rookies races
Fresh from victories on his KTM RC 250 R in the opening two rounds of the Motostar British Championship, Tarran Mackenzie travelled to the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, for the first two races of the Red Bull Rookies MotoGP Cup.
Tarran was running in second place in Race 1 behind fellow Brit, Bradley Ray, before crashing with two laps to go.
‘Taz’ rode in the Rookies series last year which ran 125cc two-stroke machine and now the MotoGP-supporting talent springboard championship uses a bike almost similar to what he uses in the UK.
We heard from Niall Mackenzie in Texas after the racing finished up: "Hello everyone. Tarran was devastated after crashing out with one lap to go during race one of the Red Bull Rookies race in Texas. He was unhurt but then had a bad start in a shortened race two so could only fight through to 11th position. He still left for home smiling and is confident for the next round at Jerez in two weeks time.
Tarran Mackenzie: “A mistake cost me a great result this weekend, but I really enjoyed running up front with race winners from last year. My riding has taken a big step forward so I can't wait to get back on the bike in Spain. A big thanks to everyone for their support as always.”
Tarran sits 14th in the championship, 40 points behind Czech rider Karel Hanika. He returns to Rookies action on May4-5 in Jerez, Spain, and in the British Championship at Oulton Park on May 6. That’s a busy weekend.
