SAGAR UNBEATABLE AT HELMSLEY ENDURO – BEC RND 2
KTM UK’s Tom Sagar continued his run of unbeaten form in the 2013 British Enduro Championship with a stunning double victory at round two of the series in Helmsley, North Yorkshire on May 4/5.
Entering the event as the championship leader following round one in Scotland, and fresh off his recent win in the European Enduro Championship in Italy, the Colwym Bay KTM UK rider immediately got down to business on day one in Helmsley.
With a 25-mile course comprising of two forestry based special tests, Sagar quickly took control of proceedings at the end of the first timed run. Topping the first test almost seven seconds faster than his closet rival, Crescent KTM’s Daryl Bolter, Sagar’s relentless pace was never matched. Setting the fastest time in all of the day’s six special tests, the Welshman claimed a comfortable 53-second margin of victory.
Behind him, Bolter secured a hard fought runner-up result. Although unable to match the pace set by Sagar, Bolter held off a strong attack from Jack Rowland to end day one in second position. Making his first appearance in the BEC, KTM’s Jonny Walker soon found his stride and placed sixth overall while also topping the Enduro 3 class.
Picking up from where he left off, Sagar instantly set the fastest time on the opening special test on day two. Continuing to build his lead throughout the day, the KTM UK rider easily topped the overall standings to remain unbeaten in the championship so far.
Improving on his day one result Bolter again placed as runner-up to Sagar but this time reduced the deficit to 25 seconds. In claiming his second E3 win of the weekend, Walker ended day two sixth overall.
In the Ladies class, KTM’s Katie Walker enjoyed a perfect weekend in Helmsley to secure a terrific double win.
The British Enduro Championship continues with round three in Knighton, Wales on July 13/14.
