KTM-powered Mackenzie disappointed after Round 9 of Motostar British championship at Donington Park

After a weekend of being consistently one of the fastest in the practice and qualifying sessions at Donington Park for Round 9 of the Motostar British Championship, Redline Motorcycle’s Tarran Mackenzie was disappointed finishing 5th position on his KTM RC125 on Sunday September 9.

Tarran – or ‘Taz’ – was on fast form all weekend in the supporting class for British Superbikes, which mixes 125 and Moto3 Grand Prix machines. Unfortunately not able to improve his best time of the weekend in final qualifying, 5th position on the grid left Taz with some chasing to do.

For Loughborough-based Redline Motorcycles, a dream start for their ‘home race’ wasn’t to be and Tarran found himself blocked at the first turn, Redgate. The race from there was about re-grouping and chasing down the leaders.

On the final lap Tarran, 16, was able to catch fourth-placed Luke Hedger, but wasn’t able to put a safe pass at the final turn to clinch valuable extra points. The race was won by fellow Red Bull Rookies rider, Bradley Ray.

Tarran now sits 13th in the championship - only 20 points from 5th place after missing five rounds through injury and Red Bull Rookies commitments - and is looking forward to the next round in Assen, Holland, where he’s raced his similar specification Rookies machine this season.

"I was a little disappointed with my 5th place as I had been one of the top two fastest riders over most of the weekend. A poor start didn’t help but my KTM was strangely well down in the speed traps during the race and I couldn’t match lap times that had come quite easy in practice. Usually we have one of the fastest bikes, so my mechanics will totally rebuild my bike for Assen where I am determined to be fighting for another podium".

Tarran now heads to Misano this weekend to race in the KTM-powered Red Bull Rookies series.
