SAGAR CLAIMS BEC KNIGHTON ENDURO WIN
Colwyn Bay Motorcycles / KTM UK supported rider Tom Sagar got back to his winning ways at the Knighton Enduro, round three of the 2013 ACU British Enduro Championship, securing the overall Championship class win on day one. Bathed in sunshine the Mid Wales event proved to be extremely hot and dry, with Tom going on to claim the runner-up position on day two.
On day one Sagar topped the opening test by some seven seconds, showing his intentions to win the day. Going on to top two further tests, Tom ended the day two seconds clear at the head of the Championship class. Day two again saw Tom make a strong start. Jamie McCanney then set the pace, ensuring Tom had to push hard for a second overall win. But it wasn’t to be. Eventually placing second overall to McCanney, Tom ended his weekend with a 1/2 Championship class result.
Crescent KTM UK backed Steve Holcombe once again delivered an impressive result following his class-topping ride at the recent rounds of the British Sprint Enduro Championship. Fifth overall at the end of the first day’s competition at the Knighton Enduro, Steve then improved to fourth overall on day two. On both days Steve topped the Enduro 1 class aboard his 250 EXC.
On day one Holcombe finished just under one-minute behind overall Championship class winner Tom Sagar. Setting the fastest time on the day’s second special tests, Steve lost valuable time on the fourth test, before ending the day strongly. Despite his mistake mid-way through the day Holcombe still managed to finish 17 seconds ahead of his closest E1 class challenger.
With Manx youngster Jamie McCanney setting the pace on day two Holcombe moved one place higher in the overall Championship class results. Starting well, Steve posted the fastest time on the day’s opening special tests and remained on pace throughout the day. Steve ended the day close to 40 seconds ahead of the Enduro 1 class runner-up.
Joining in on the action at the Knighton Enduro was KTM’s Hard Enduro specialist Jonny Walker. Recently returning from the punishing Red Bull Romaniacs event, Jonny claimed two Enduro 3 class-winning results. Sixth overall on day one, Walker showed that despite having not raced a time card enduro for a long time, he’d lost none of his speed. Placing 14 seconds behind Steve Holcombe on day one, Jonny ended day two third highest KTM mounted rider in the Championship class.
In the Expert class Leisure Trail KTM rider Brad Freeman ended day one in third overall before moving to the top of the class on day two.
The fourth round of the 2013 ACU British Enduro Championship takes place on August 17/18, in Mid Wales.
