EUROPEAN JUNIOR CUP VICTORY FOR AUSTRIA’S LUCAS WIMMER IN MISANO!
Austria’s Lucas Wimmer converted his Pole Position into a first victory in the KTM European Junior Cup after dominating Round 3 in Misano, San Marino.
The Austrian teenager was in blistering form the entire weekend and immediately shot his KTM 690 Duke out of the grid to claim the holeshot.
He quickly built up a commanding lead to win from a battling Christian Vidal of Spain and Australian Sepp Scarcella. The two riders trailed Wimmer and were locked together for the entire nine lap race with Vidal making the most of a small mistake from the Australian on the final turn.
Behind the podium finishers an intense battle of eight riders raged with Javi Orellana eventually securing a hard fought 4th from Jean Francois Demoulin and Italian Wildcard rider Federico Fazzina in 6th. Kiwi Jake Lewis was 7th a fraction ahead of Stinius Viking Odegard and Brandon Kyee who took 9th three seconds ahead of Ilya Mikhalchik in tenth.
Artur Wielebski, Jamie Patterson and Gaston Garcia all fell, thankfully without injury.
In the Championship it is Spaniard Christian Vidal who now holds a slender 1 point advantage over Wimmer and the absent Adrian Pasek but with 10 points covering the top 9 riders in the standings as the series moves to Aragon the KTM European Junior Cup is wide open.
All competitors in the EJC ride KTM 690 Dukes in this competition in association with the World Superbike Championship.
