Ruben Faria, a long-time stalwart of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team finished sixth overall in the Dakar 2015, a very solid effort given the fact that he had broken a collarbone only six weeks before what is the most arduous off road annual event on the motor sports calendar.
Given that he was not able to engage in intensive preparation for the event, Faria can be satisfied with the outcome, especially as he exited the 2014 Dakar in the third stage. The Portuguese rider does have a very solid Dakar record. He finished second overall in 2013 and was awarded the victory in the final stage to pick up his best ever result. He was twelfth in 2012, eighth in 2011 and eleventh in 2010. Faria has four Dakar stage victories to his credit.
Born in 1974 in Olhão, Portugal, Ruben first raced in the Portuguese Championship in Piscainho in 1982. He first rode a KTM machine, a KTM LC4 620 in 1995 and is passionate about racing the mighty Dakar. Like his factory teammates, he now competes on the KTM 450 RALLY.
