Karel Hanika comes to the Red Bull KTM Ajo factory team as the 2013 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup champion and although the 17-year-old with the long blonde hair is the team’s rookie he has been impressive in the pre-season IRTA official tests.
Hanika is expected to develop well as a rider under the expert guidance of team boss Aki Ajo and says his experience in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup was excellent preparation for entering the senior ranks.
"It’s clear that the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup was a great experience for me, a great schooling to prepare me for the World Championship. Thanks to this, now I know many of the tracks on the calendar. I also know more or less how the paddock works and it’s not all new to me," Hanika said before the season commenced.
Hanika was the third fastest overall in the third round of official tests on the Jerez circuit, an indication that he is neither phased by entry into the senior ranks and that he is also ready to accept the challenge.
Team boss Ajo has assigned Hanika the role of ‘learning’ in his debut year, but it seems likely that this may not be enough for the hungry young Czech teenager.
Hanika is in the team with Australian Jack Miller.Karel's facebook
