REMES WRAPS UP E1 SEASON IN 2ND OVERALL
published at 02.10.2011
KTM Enduro factory rider Eero Remes continued the consistency he has shown throughout the season when riders met for the final two rounds in Mende, France this weekend. The Finnish rider picked up two more podiums to finish second overall for the season.
While the championship went to Finland’s Juha Salminen, who was also the dominant rider on Saturday to move into the title position, Remes displayed the same tenacity that he has shown throughout the season to net a second and a third in the final two rounds. Remes was also the star of the 2011 ISDE at home in Finland and has put in confident performances throughout the 16-round competition. KTM supported rider Lorenzo Santolino of Spain improved on his eighth position on Saturday to narrowly miss the podium on Sunday and had a sufficient accrued points score over the season for him to finish in fifth overall.
Fellow KTM Spanish rider Mario Roman overcame a slight knee injury on Saturday, which cost him two minutes and knocked him down the order to fourth place, bounced back with a strong race on Sunday to be on the podium in second place. Roman finished overall second for the season. Young Jonathan Manzi of Italy’s Enduro heartland in Bergamo finished 6-4 in EJ, was overall 5th for the season and was the outright winner of the Youth Cup. Manzi, who has all the hallmarks of a future champion, will be a rider to watch in the EJ class next year.
KTM congratulates E1 champion Juha Salminen and EJ champion Jeremy Joly.
