DOUBLE POLE IN OSCHERSLEBEN FOR SMRZ AND NEBEL

Riders from the Inghart KTM Team were in top form for IDM Superbike training on Saturday at the Oschersleben circuit in Germany with Matej Smrz registering the fastest ever lap on the circuit to grab pole position and teammate Stefan Nebel second fastest.
With two KTM RC8 Rs on the front of the grid and Austrian rider Martin Bauer of the Motorex KTM Team on the second row of the grid, the battle lines are drawn for another strong result in the second race weekend of this hard fought competition. Martin Bauer won both races on the opening weekend of competition on the Lausnitzring to put KTM in front of the competition standings in both rider and Manufacturer categories. Bauer was also a winner her on this circuit in 2010.
Matej Smrz’s remarkable lap of 1:25.914 seconds created a stir and attracted congratulations from senior track management. It does however not count as an official lap record, which can only be set during a race.
Matej Smrz: “I am very happy about my first ever pole position in the superbike IDM but what is even more important for me are the races tomorrow. I hope I get a better start than I did on the Lausnitzring. Today I made a special point of training the start four times and that went pretty well. My fastest time was in the morning on the qualifier tires. Before and after I used the race tires so I could test them for race durability. That went very well and I am confident for tomorrow.”
Stefan Nebel: “That was a good, interesting training, My lap times were absolutely okay and I was 2.5 tenths of a second off Matej’s times. We mostly worked on the setup for the race in training today and I think we can deliver a good performance tomorrow. The races are going to be very close, just like on the Lausnitzring where we had a leader group of 8-10 riders. After training there is only one second between the first ten. Its going to be exciting and it will be hard going.”
KTM riders in the IDM 125 category were also in top form registering 1,3,5,6 and 10 on the list of fastest riders for tomorrow’s races.
