Istria surprises us again and again with wonderful dirt roads and forest tracks, leading us to stunning views of the Adriatic, and the hinterland with its typical buildings from imperial and royal times. River crossings and selective ascents into rocky canyons require good technique and condition, as well as providing plenty to talk about when sitting comfortably back at the hotel, watching the sunset.
