KTM Team comes together at Round 1 of Canadian MX Nationals ...

After months of training, testing and developing brand new race machines, the KTM Red Bull Royal Distributing Fox Racing Team was so excited to be welcomed with heavy rains and a mudbath at Round 1 of the CMRC Canadian Motocross Nationals in Nanaimo, BC….

Well, maybe “excited” isn’t the best word to describe KTM’s feelings during the muddy war that was The Wastelands. Despite the disgusting weather and track conditions, the KTM team pushed forward and scored themselves the first MX2 moto win and two runner-up finishes in MX1.

“Jeremy [Medaglia] was absolutely on it in that first moto,” says Andy White, KTM Canada’s Race Manager. “He got a great start, passed for the lead early on and then checked out for the win. He even had enough time to stop and replace his goggles! The second moto didn’t go so well, as Jeremy fell victim to a bad start and was forced to climb his way through the pack, eventually finishing 12th place and 4th overall.”

In the MX1 class, defending champion, Colton Facciotti, had two great starts and rode solid to finish second in both motos. “I’m happy with the way I rode but feel like I could have pushed a little harder,” says Facciotti, who hadn’t been on a starting gate since last September. “It was my first race in a long time, and considering the track conditions, I didn’t want to make a mistake.”

When the rains came, many pegged KTM’s Dusty Klatt for a win; he’s always fast on the slick Wastelands track. Sadly, bad starts and luck kept him off the box. “In moto two, I came from about 13th to 5th, but then I messed up on the last lap and lost a position,” recalls Klatt. “I’m looking forward to the next race but wish I had a better effort for my team, because I know they’re busting their butts. So a big thanks to them and everyone who helped out.”

Results aside, the KTM team is gelling very well. From the mechanics and truck driver, to the racers and sponsors, everyone is doing their part to achieve success. “What a great group of guys,” notes Fox Canada’s Marketing Manager, Jay Moore, who was at Nanaimo making sure Facciotti, Klatt and Medaglia had fresh, clean gear every moto. “There’s a really good vibe coming from the KTM pits; everyone’s laughing and having fun, while remaining focused on the tasks at hand. It’s going to be a good year!”

Jeremy Medaglia won the first MX2 moto of the year at The Wastelands in Nanaimo, BC.

Dusty Klatt had some bad luck on the muddy Nanaimo track, but fought through the pack for a 6th in the second MX1 moto.

Defending MX1 champ, Colton Facciotti, rode to a second place finish in both motos.

New for 2012, points' leaders in both classes are to wear the red/white numberplate.

Facciotti finished second overall.

The new KTM race bikes were put through the paces in Nanaimo, but never faltered once.
