ALT SEALS THE RED BULL ROOKIES DOUBLE ON THE ASSEN CIRCUIT!

published at 30.06.2012 / created by Marcia Hill

German rider Florian Alt completed a dream weekend on the Assen racing circuit on Saturday securing a double victory by winning the second of two Red Bull Rookies Cup races on the traditional Dutch circuit.

Following on from his victory in race one of Friday, Alt accrued enough points to assume the lead in this hard fought championship where tomorrow’s stars of the racing circuit compete on identical KTM 125 RR machines.

Alt emerged the winner after a typical Red Bull Rookies Cup multi-rider dash to the finish with Spain’s Marcos Ramirez in second and Alt’s biggest rival for the title so far, his countryman Philipp Oettl picking up third. Karel Hanika, Czech rider and pole man in his first season was challenging the leaders going into the final chicane. He braked too hard, clipped the back of Alt’s bike, flew into the air and walked away from what looked like a spectacular crash. French rider Simon Danilo finished fourth and said later he had been happy to be up with the dominant leaders.

Race two at Assen was supported by a huge crowd that stopped behind to support the young riders and Alt’s success allowed him to leave the circuit with an 8-point lead over Oettl. The two young Germans will now go to the next races at home in Germany with all guns blazing and massive support from their hometown fans.

Florian Alt: “It was a great race, so tough just like yesterday. Again it was Philipp, Karel and I who did a lot of the leading and fighting. It was obvious it would come down to the chicane again so I just tried to cover it as well as I could, I felt something hit my boot, I guess it was Karel but I really don't know what happened.”

Philipp Oettl, a consummate professional said: “It was another very hard fight and being on the podium is OK, I am happy for the points but I am only really satisfied with winning. So I am already thinking about next weekend at the Sachsenring and I am confident that I can do a good job there.”

Races 9 and 10 (of 15) are at the Sachsenring next weekend, June 7-8.
