GERMANY’S PHILIPP OETTL WINS CEV MOTO3 OPENER ON KALEX-KTM MACHINE

published at 01.04.2012 / created by Marcia Hill

Germany’s bright young road racer Philipp Oettl opened his season with flair on Sunday winning the first round of the CEV (Spanish) Moto3 Championship on the Jerez Racing Circuit.

For the Spanish Moto3 Championships Philipp Oettl rides the KALEX-KTM Moto3 bike driven by the new KTM M32 Moto3 engine, a product of KTM’s in-house Research and Development Department at KTM headquarters in Mattighofen Austria.

Oettl put in a great day on the classic Spanish circuit first securing the Moto3 pole position and then taking the race win to charge to the top of the competition standings. The young German races for the HP Moto KALEX Team managed by his father, Peter Oettl, a former 125 cc champion at top international level and only recently took delivery of the new KALEX–KTM Moto3 bike.

In addition to the CEV Moto3 Championship Oettl will also compete in his third season of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in 2012 where all riders are on the KTM 125 RR machine. He will return to the Jerez circuit for rounds 1 & 2 of the Rookies Cup on April 28-29. Philipp is considered one of the most promising young talents and his activity in the CEV is an indication of KTM’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of young riders and ‘Ready to Race’ motorcycles.

KTM has also re-entered the MotoGP competition in 2012 to contest the new Moto3 class where there will be nine riders competing on bikes driven by the KTM M32 Moto3 engine – five pure KTM Moto3 machines and four KALEX-KTM bikes. The Opening GP of the 2012 season is on the Losail Circuit in Qatar on the Easter weekend.
