KTM RIDERS TALK ABOUT CENTENARY ISDE
Motorex KTM Off Road Racing Team riders Chris Hollis, Geoff Braico and Ben Burrell are in various stages of return from Italy after completing a successful Centenary Edition of the International Six Day Enduro on the island of Sardinia.
Considered the ‘Olympics of enduro racing’ this famous event brought together 630 of the world’s fastest off road racers from 36 countries, to race 1500 kilometres five days of trail and special test, and a sixth incorporating a final motocross.
Motorex KTM team mates Chris Hollis, Ben Burrell and Geoff Braico all made the best of the hot, dusty conditions, contesting and finishing the event in Gold Medal times.
Recently crowned AORC E2 Champion Hollis finished 4th in the E3 class aboard his KTM500EXC, and helped the Australian Senior team to fourth in the world trophy classification standings, behind podium finishers France, the US and Italy.
Riding a KTM350EXC in the FIM Junior (U23) World Trophy classification, Ben Burrell rode to 31st in the E2 class as the Aussie juniors finished in sixth place, behind winner France, with Italy and Great Britain filling out the podium.
The Motorex KTM team’s AORC E3 Champion Geoff Braico rode in the Club Teams classification on a KTM500EXC, helping the team to 16th place from 139 entrants by finishing a brilliant second in the C3 class. Braico wrapped up his ISDE experience in the best possible way, blasting to a powerful holeshot in the final motocross, and winning the race. Geoff Braico – “This Six Days for me was a tough one. Both mentally and physically it was full of challenging trail and the tests were pretty gnarly as well. The dust was the main player for me because I started behind the slower trophy riders and the girls every day, but I still managed to post some decent times so I'm happy. The 500EXC was perfect all week and never missed a beat. My highlight was definitely my final moto. I pulled a huge holeshot and managed to win the moto. It was unreal. Massive thanks to all the Australian ISDE team crew and all the supporters for their help. Without them I could not have done it. Also a big thanks to Jeff Leisk and everyone at KTM for their support as well as my sponsors from back home. Much appreciated.”
Chris Hollis – “We had a really good six day this year. It was my first time on the 500EXC and I really liked it, and it only took a day to really get the hang of it. The special tests were really dusty for the whole event, so instead of three riders a minute they dropped it back to two to help with dust. I was sitting third in E3 the whole event until Day 5, when I made a few little mistakes which helped Mike Brown to overtake me - was bummed about that. All in all I'm really happy with where I placed. The boys and girls killed and everyone should be proud of themselves. A big thanks to Motorcycling Australia and all the supporters who were there to help."
Ben Burrell – “My ISDE experience was great, I had a heap of fun even though the conditions were very dusty and quite hot. I had quite a few crashes and my special test times were a bit up and down, which was a bit of a pain, but I didn't have one bit of trouble with the KTM350EXC, it ran awesome all week and it. On the whole a great event.”
