Altus de Wet and Riaan van Niekerk defend their titles!
This years’ National Enduro Championship was more than exciting. The last race at Champagne Valley (KZN) had to determine who wins the Overall Championship as well as the Open Class.
Top riders Altus de Wet (ECS Natro Alfie Cox KTM), Darryl Curtis (Red Bull KTM) and Jade Gutzeit (Regent BMW) were only separated by two points in the Championship and had to give their very best at the final round of the Enduro Nationals which took place at a scenic valley at the foot of the Drakensberg.

All riders entered the race well prepared. Darryl Curtis who just came back from his trip to Romaniacs where he finished 6th Overall found the right pace but had to pull out of the race on the last loop. Altus de Wet (KTM 250 XC-W) and Jade Gutzeit (BMW G450X) had to decide it between the two of them and had a head to head race until the finish line. With not even a minute lead De Wet won the race and took home not only the race win but also the Overall and Open Class National Enduro Championship.

24 year old De Wet who lives in Pietermaritzburg commented after his win: “I am so happy that I won the Championship the second year in a row now. I have trained hard over the last months and it really paid off! Thanks to KTM, my sponsors Alfie Cox, ECS and Natro for supporting me.”

In the 200cc Class Riaan van Niekerk was leading the Championship by 13 points, so all the Red Bull KTM rider had to do was finishing the race and collecting some points. With a 4th place Overall and a win in his class Van Niekerk (KTM 250 XCF-W) managed to secure the title in the 200cc Class of the National Enduro Championship and will keep his number one plate for another year.

The entire Orange family congratulates Altus de Wet and Riaan van Niekerk on another South African Enduro Championship title for the Austrian manufacturer.
