KTM’s MX riders dominate at national events ahead of MX World Championship
Just one week ahead of the start of the 2009 world championship season in Faenza Italy, leading KTM riders went out this weekend and cleaned up at national championship races.
Red Bull KTM factory rider Max Nagl of Germany, competing in the British Motocross Championships in England this weekend snatched the two motos to claim overall victory in the MX1 ahead of American Zach Osbourne and Brad Anderson. Stephen Sword of the UK KTM team similarly took care of business with a clean sweep for overall victory in the MX2 ahead of Pascal Leuret and Shaun Simpson, Nagl’s teammate in the Red Bull KTM factory team.

Meanwhile across the channel at the Dutch Motocross Championships in Halle, Netherlands, KTM youth rider Jeffrey Herlings, just 14, put on a show stopping performance to take overall victory in the MX2 class ahead of KTM rider Joel Roelants and Russian Evgeny Bobrishev. Herlings, the son of former GP racer Peter Herlings, is an example of how KTM continually grooms the next generation of riders. He must however wait until he turns 15 before he is eligible to race in the MX World Championship GP series. KTM’s Jeremy Van Horebeek was fourth and third to finish just off the podium.

To complete a top weekend in the sport for KTM, factory rider Jonathan Barragan cleaned up in MX1 in the Spanish Championship with a 2-1 for overall top podium place.
